You Versus Them

You went and stood in line for hours for things you don’t truly need. They came and stood in line for hours for clothes they needed!

Saturday was a truly humbling day. We had our first ever “Life Church Clothes Giveaway” Saturday. The scheduled time for the giveaway was from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. At 5 p.m. on Friday evening there were already some of Rome’s homeless people in line at the front of the Forum. By 9:50 a.m. on Saturday morning the line stretched from the front door, through the parking lot, down West 1st Street, all the way to 2nd Avenue. Oh yeah, did I mention it was cold and raining?

We were blessed to be given literally TONS of clothes from a contact in LaGrange, GA in order to make this happen and God willing, this won’t be the last time we do this. We had countless volunteers come out on Wednesday and Friday in order to sort through all of the clothes and get them laid out onto the tables by gender and size. We had countless volunteers come out on Saturday morning in order to walk through the lines sharing the love of Christ, to stand by the doors and count people in, to assist people in filling up their bags with clothes that will help them make it through the winter, and to just love on our community! It was AMAZING.

It is amazing to think that the day before, shoppers across the country spent approximately $10.6 billion. Yes I said billion, with a B! Yet, there are still so many people who are struggling to clothe and feed their families! We estimate that approximately 1,200 to 1,500 people came through the doors of the forum on Saturday and were able to get some clothes that they would not have been able to get otherwise.

Here’s some pictures from the event (thanks to Tonya for the pictures!)…

Thank You Life Church for loving Rome and Floyd County!

By the way, here’s a link to an article about the giveaway in the Rome News-Tribune.

  1. Thanks for what you guys are doing in Rome! You are definitely helping the Church be known for what it is for rather than what it is against!!!

  2. Hey Josh! I need your home address please!!!
